Segway Offers Beach Goers A New Way To Travel by Cydney Long
SEA ISLE CITY, N.J. (CBS 3) ―

Moving Forward Rentals in Sea Isle City offers folks a new way to get around town.

Thousands packed in as much fun as possible at the New Jersey shore over the long Memorial Day weekend and many found a new way to move around town.
"We went to dinner to the beach, to the fair, to the movies, we did everything," Backie Cook of New Brunswick said.
Cook spent some quality time in Ocean City with her family and added that all the attractions can be exhausting.
However, there is good news for tired soles.
If you are in the mood for a smooth sensation under your feet, head to Moving Forward Rentals LLC. in Sea Isle City to check out the wave of the future.
Sea Isle is the first Jersey shore town to approve use of the signature 'Segway', a 2-wheel motorized people mover.
So move over bicycles and skateboards, Talia Panarello enjoyed her ride.
"It's a blast, it's so easy to learn, you get a nice breeze, it is awesome," Talia said. Rider Keith Klohoker added, "It's just something new, everyone's rode a bike, jogged or walked the boardwalk, it is something new and it is fun."
Owners Jonathan Strout and Jamie Connor are excited about their new venture, right now just open on then weekends. In June, they will begin 7 day-a-week rentals.
"You can cover more area than you would on foot, it's a novelty item, something you wouldn't always get to do," Connor said.
"For the elderly crowd, they can cruise the entire promenade without getting tired," Strout said.
Riders must be at least 16, wear a helmet as required by state law, and watch a safety video.
The Segway goes 12 miles per hour, but renters still get one-on-one training before they hit the boardwalk, and the cost is $35 to $50 dollars starting from a half hour to an hour and a half.
"We like to say step up and give up, you just have to trust the machine, just stand still," Connor explained.
"They become an extension of your body, it takes about 5 minutes to feel comfortable," Strout said.
But athletic fanatics, and those looking to burn off extra calories, are not convinced.
"They're the worst ever, how lazy can you be??" wondered one beach patron.
While you may not burn calories, it might prevent blisters and save on sore muscles; you just might be able to cover more ground at the shore than you ever did before.
